The purpose of this conducting course is to introduce the student to the basic conducting techniques and non-verbal expression/communication from the podium. The course will provide sufficient podium time for students to gain the most practical experience in conducting. The fundamental method for score study will be introduced. Knowledge related to score study will be incorporated from other musicianship courses. The course is constructed to help the students learn the basic conducting skills which will be needed in a future teaching or performance situation. Furthermore, this course will also provide a solid grounding for advanced conducting study. For the first semester of the undergraduate conducting course, course will focus on the basic conducting techniques, transpositions, and introduction to score study.
