This embodied Chinese learning course pursues three mutually integrated objectives, developing students’ comprehensive language competence through dance and movement. First, the cognitive-linguistic objective aims to help students master over 100 core Chinese vocabulary items and achieve accurate tonal pronunciation. Through the analysis of aesthetic symbols in Zhongguo Feng (Chinese-style) music, understanding the historical contexts of blue-and-white porcelain art and agricultural traditions, and comparing the differences between classical and modern Chinese expression found in song lyrics, students will cultivate deep cultural literacy. Second, the affective-motivational objective seeks to build language learning confidence through creative expression, foster a collaborative spirit through group choreography, develop intercultural empathy and sensitivity, and establish a supportive learning community in which students feel a strong sense of belonging and achievement, thereby nurturing intrinsic motivation and cultural appreciation. Third, the skill-performance objective focuses on developing students’ ability to execute classical and modern Chinese dance movements while transforming character strokes into embodied calligraphy, fluently singing rhythmic lyrics with accurate tonal control, expressing emotional nuances through diverse movement qualities, and ultimately creating a personalized movement vocabulary that establishes lasting connections among physical expression, linguistic meaning, and cultural understanding. Through this tripartite framework, students will not only enhance their language proficiency but also gain a holistic, embodied understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
