This theme-based course is designed to help students to build up their English communicative competence—the ability of communicating with others in English, to assist them to develop warm manners and positive attitudes towards English learning, to expose them to cross-cultural concepts, to motivate them to learn about others and express themselves, and to train them to make English become part of their lives. Topics to be discussed include: Movies and Entertainment, Staying at Hotels, Cars and Driving, Personal Care and Appearance, Eating Well, Psychology and Personality, Enjoying the Arts, Living with Computers, Ethics and Values, and etc. The Book of Rhymes and Rhythms is used to work on pronunciation.
