This course is designed for those students who are highly interested in developing their English oral skills with greater accuracy and fluency. Students will begin to strengthen their basic speaking techniques and to develop competence in initiating and/or leading discussions and teamwork. The major oral assignments include a process analysis speech, a comparison and contrast speech, a persuasive speech, and debates.
provid clear, organized instructions in a process analysis speech; organize material for a comparison/contrast speech; use emotional and logical appeals to persuade; learn to recognize and avoid logical fallacies; select an appropriate tone and vocabulary for each assignment; incorporate basic research into speeches; cooperate with others in paired speeches and debates; and employ evidence and logic to refute views of others.
