教育目標

This course is designed for those who are not English majors. We emphasize four skills learning-- reading, writing, listening and speaking. Thus, the textbook we use is four skills oriented American English File 3. Grammar and writing practice will be much emphasized in the first semester, while the play performance the second semester. We will study grammar and practice how to write correctly from sentences to a whole article. Since the increase of vocabulary and the practice of grammar would be helpful to promote our English proficiency and the learning of them within context is effective, we will study three reading books-- Information Technology, The History of the English Language and Great Expectations, which are varied in topics and levels-- to study grammar forms and build up vocabulary. Every reading book will have quizzes for comprehension, writing and oral practice. By reading those books, we will not only obtain knowledge but develop critical thinking; further, we hope, through discussion, we practice to express or share ideas precisely and clearly to each other. As for listening, we will practice it in Language Lab by watching a video called Connected with English.
