教育目標

The goal of Topics in Public Economics is to develop a framework that the student may use to analyze the role of government in a market economy. This framework introduces the student to the economic way of thinking about the forces at work in society that guide economic policy.

參考書目

Boadway and Wildasin’s Public Sector Economics (Little, Brown and Company, 2nd Edition, 1984) will be used as a reference source and is required, denoted as B&W. The other optional advanced textbook is Jean Hindriks and Gareth D. Myles’ Intermediate Public Economics (MIT Press, 2006). A separate reading packet of articles is also required.

Harvey Rosen and Ted Gayer’s Public Finance (McGraw-Hill/Irwin; 8th Edition) is a basic undergraduate level textbook, denoted as R&G. Students who are not familiar with basic public finance theorem are suggested to read this textbook by themselves before attending this course.
