This course, Skillful Speaking: Exploring Life Lessons in English, is for high-intermediate to advanced students seeking to enhance their English language proficiency while exploring essential study and life skills. Students will engage in thematic discussions and practical exercises that focus on personal development topics such as growth mindset, time management, and language learning habits. The course emphasizes real-world applications of language skills through collaborative activities, reflective practices, and actionable coursework, while also allowing students to immediately implement what they have learned in English into their daily lives. By integrating language learning with personal growth skills, students will build confidence and fluency in English, while also preparing for both academic and personal success.

On completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. Express thoughts and experiences related to personal growth topics using appropriate vocabulary and language structures; 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the various study and life skills topics as well as applying and tracking various strategies in daily life; 3. Collaborate effectively with peers in small group discussions, enhancing conversational skills, fluency, and confidence in using English; 4. Implement practical language and study habits that enhance retention and understanding of new material; 5. Support an opinion with evidence and explanation in speaking and writing; 6. Utilize persuasive language techniques to influence others effectively in discussions and presentations; 7. Present well-organized presentations on study skills and personal growth topics with a focus on feeling, sounding, and appearing confident; 8. Articulate personal reflections on strengths and areas for improvement in both language skills and life skills.
