教育目標

By the end of the semester, students should: 1. be familiar with the word structure in English; 2. be able to analyse different types of complex word structure in English; 3. appreciate the relation between linguistic theory and data; 4. be confident enough to tackle courses (e.g. Applied linguistics, language acquisition, and psycholinguistics) which presuppose some background in morphology;

課程概述

Morphology is an elective for second-year students and above. This module provides an overview of the major aspects of word structure in English. It should be viewed as an extended segment of linguistics for those who have taken Introduction to Linguistics. The module will cover the following topics: 1. Basic concepts in morphology; 2. Morphological process; 3. English inflection; 4. English clitics; 5. English compounding; 6. English derivational morphology; and 7. Types of allomorphy in English.
