1. Read (view) film and a selection of children’s books critically using basic film analysis tools 2. Have a deeper understanding of narrative structures and types 3. Think critically and creatively about the issues in and of children’s books and films. 4. Have a general understanding of child development. 5. Have a fundamental understanding of children’s culture and the function of imagination. . 6. Write and construct a children’s picture book.

課程概述

Children’s Literature, Film and Culture is a seminar for third- and fourth-year students. This course is a general survey of Children’s Literature and Film in certain cultures, genres, and age groups. This course will also consider issues of power, violence, and punishment, issues of gender, adulthood, family, peers, and race and social class. The course is arranged in two parts: Part I: Students will look at children’s film and literature from various cultures. This course includes principles of drama and basic elements of fiction. Students will be introduced to basic film and child development theories. Part II: Following the midterm, the class will focus upon writing for Children, through writing exercises, such as, storyboarding, writing a story in 24 sentences, writing to word lists, and word count and language manipulation (word play).
