評分方式

評分項目	配分比例	說明
Oral presentations	10	When giving your oral presentations, you are not allowed to look at your notes.
Projects	20	Each group of 4 or 5 chooses your own topic and have five weeks to research it. After that, group members should create handouts, PowerPoint materials, and give a 20-minute presentation.
Quizzes	20	You will be given 2 take-home and open-book tests. Quiz 1 covers Chapters 1-6. Quiz 2 covers Chapters 1-6 & 14-16.
Participation	10	If you are late for class more than 6 times or absent more than 6 hours, you will get a zero for your participation.
Midterm exam	15	The midterm exam is a written exam which covers Chapters 1-6 of the textbook Correct Grammar.
Final exam	25	This is a comprehensive exam, so the final exam covers what has been taught during the whole semester.

教育目標

On completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. recognize the elements of sentence structure; 2. improve their reading comprehension; 3. develop a perspective on the relative importance of several ideas within a single sentence; and 4. be alert to unexpected errors in their everyday reading and writing.

課程概述

This three-credit course is designed to give students a strong foundation in the basics of Standard English grammar. There will be detailed discussions of many aspects of grammar such as sentence patterns, phrases, clauses, and punctuation. Students will be given exercises that emphasize sentence-level writing skills in order to apply their knowledge of the material studied in class.
