This course is organized around the universal themes that appear in the sacred art and stories of every culture: for example, creation; the cosmic center that connects humans, the ancestors, and the gods; sacred animals; gods and goddesses; sacred marriage; the divine child; the hero; death; and rebirth.
We shall be reading together written accounts of myths, that is, sacred stories, from all over the world. In addition, we shall be looking at images of sacred art (slides) that have served to illustrate such myths.
